Research Support Librarian
American University in Cairo
The Research Support Librarian advances the university’s research and academic mission by providing library support throughout the research lifecycle. This role builds strong partnerships with academic programs, integrates information literacy into curricula, promotes open access, and helps researchers access and evaluate scholarly resources. The librarian also contributes to developing tools and services that enhance access to both open and subscribed content.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Liaison and Academic Engagement
Serve as the primary library contact for assigned academic departments and programs.
Collaborate with faculty to align library services with curricular and research needs.
Participate in relevant committees and working groups.
Communicate library resources, services, and initiatives effectively to liaison programs
2. Research Support
Provide in-depth research consultations for students, faculty, and researchers.
Stay current with research trends and tools, including AI, to deliver timely support.
Support research impact initiatives, including ORCID registration and use of bibliometric tools.
Offer training on emerging research technologies such as digital scholarship platforms and research management systems.
3. Information Literacy and Curriculum Integration
Design and deliver course-integrated information literacy sessions.
Create instructional materials that develop critical research skills, including source evaluation, database use, and citation management.
Collaborate with faculty to embed research skills into undergraduate and graduate curricula.
Provide specialized support for graduate and doctoral students, including thesis and dissertation guidance.
Promote academic integrity and ethical research practices.
4. Open Access and Scholarly Communication
Promote the use of open access resources, including OER, open data, and open research tools.
Create guides and tools to help researchers identify and use high-quality open access content.
Raise awareness of alternative publishing models, such as preprint servers and OER.
5. Professional Development
Contribute to the assessment and improvement of library services related to research and learning.
Stay informed on trends in scholarly communication, open science, and library technologies.
Engage in ongoing professional development.
Job Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- International experience in research support or academic liaison roles in higher education.
- Knowledge of open access publishing, scholarly communication, and information literacy instruction.
- Ability to create tools or guides to enhance access to research content.
- Familiarity with citation databases (e.g., Scopus, Web of Science), discovery tools, and reference managers (e.g., EndNote, Zotero).
